Do you need prior experience to be on GDC?
You absolutely do NOT need prior experience! At GDC, we believe that dance is for everyone, regardless of prior experience! We have so many different styles of dance and we are constantly evolving due to our dancers and what they bring to the floor!! We strive to create a safe and creative space, as well as a great platform for you to not only strengthen your dance skills but to showcase them along your GDC family!! :)
Are you a competitive dance team?
We are not a competitive dance team making us slightly more inclusive with our dance interests but we do perform at a variety of different events! In the past we have performed at Diwali Night, India Night, MannMukti Gala, UNICEF Gala, our very own GDC Showcase and for organizations on campus that reach out to us!
What styles of dance do you showcase?
We have primarily done Classical, Hip Hop, Filmy, Kuthu/South Indian, Bhangra in the past but we will be incorporating more Bollywood Fusion styles! In our showcase, we have done Contemporary, Garba, Partner Dances, and more! We are open to bringing new styles to the dance floor and showcasing them to the rest of the student body!
What is the time commitment like as a dancer?
Practices are usually weekly depending on whether or not there is an upcoming performance. Outside of upcoming events, dancers commitment is very minimal! Holding a position on the dance team, however, might require extra hours! Our team prioritizes the academic pursuits and mental health of our dancers and are accommodating in terms of time commitment.
